Super Bowl Hype - I'm over it....

This is what happens when you ponder to much...

Now I am all about enjoying life’s pleasures. Super Bowl happens to be the pleasure of many – not mine to the fullest extent – although I am not a killjoy, after all it is a great excuse to have a party! And Yes, I managed to enjoy the party!

So hopefully I won't rain on anyone’s parade, just some thoughts that kept on nagging me.

Two observations from last night (two of many). As part of the opening ceremony, I was kind of perplexed at the fact that they dedicated the Superbowl to the Declaration of Independence. Now this is the first time I ever noticed this – but I don’t watch every year – so it could very well be something they do all the time – but it just seems odd to me.
What relation does the Declaration of Independence have with a hyped up football game?
A hyped up game that has become one of the iconic sports equated to the US. An event that we put too much into annually, and only but a damn football game! It’s not changing the world – it’s not selflessly helping someone in need. It’s a game and it’s enjoyable – but yet it’s a multi billion-dollar greed festival. The players who go out there and play their hearts out and get battered and bruised, all for what? One would hope for the love of the game – which I’m sure is a big part of it – otherwise they wouldn’t be doing it – but let’s talk about the $$ they receive. I’m sorry, but I find it so ridiculous in that these players, CEOS, etc get paid millions of dollars to play, manage, whatever this game that isn’t even changing the world around us for the better. Yes they show great determination and confidence and skill. But how does that translate to my world? Our world filled with disease and poverty? I ponder this because it seems like we live in a world full of hypocrites. The opening ceremony displayed service men and of course the singing of our beautiful national anthem. And then America’s favorite past time turns into a cesspool of Ad’s. I look forward to the ad’s as much as the next person, but for crying out loud, I just can’t get past the $$’s spent on this. It is grotesque and mind-boggling.

The cost of a ticket from what I understand ranges anywhere from $300 to $5,000!!
What?!!! How is this game that important enough to pay $5000? Who is going to these games and what am I doing wrong? I’m sure people save, save, save for the big game, which is again your right to do so. But, wouldn’t it be nice if people actually put that much time and effort in saving throughout the year to put money towards your favorite charity? Yes – it would be, but that’s not human nature. We all want instant gratification, and let’s face it; we are all selfish to a point. And you know, I realize this is something to look forward to every year for many people, so I completely understand the need to ‘reward’ yourself. I do the same with things that I like too, it is the only way to stay sane. I just can’t help to look beyond the game and all that goes into aside from the ‘Game’. It is in my eyes, money ill spent. I realize this revenue goes into paying overhead (salaries, vendors, etc) But that’s just it, why?! Why has Pro Sports become such a billion dollar business? It is only a GAME filled with talented athlete’s who are in it because of the love of the game! I agree they should get their fair share, yes! But over $1mil a player? I don’t get it. How is their worth that much greater than the person who dedicates their entire life to helping others in need?

Which leads me to observation #2. An NFL player won an award for his superior community service, I can’t remember the name – nor can I find anything on the Internet about this as of Feb 4 9:40am. The observation is – it took 5 seconds to present the award and all we learned is that he won the award for this great service. BUT what did he do? I would like to know – as I’m sure many others would to. This is my point, if we are going to mix in country honor, and the dedication to the Declaration of Independence with the Super Bowl. And then give an award of what is and should be a great honor – and not even explain what he did. I would have much more respect for this whole thing if only I knew what they did in the real world with their fortune and fame.
I’m sure many do go out and help in whatever way they can – but WE NEVER HEAR ABOUT IT!

That’s it from me…But really, what the hell does the Declaration of Independence have to do with the Super bowl?!!!
